Edward Brake

Edward Brake was the successor to Albert Cave as deputy director and to Ignatius Hopper as director of Bishopsgate Asylum for the Insane. He currently is a ghost, one of several making up the Board of Directors.

Overview

Originally an assistant to Albert Cave, who took on the position of Acting Director following Ignatius Hopper's breakdown and subsequent leave of absence, Brake took the reins when Cave was trampled to death by a horse in 1894. His power was fully secured by the death of Hopper, who was still technically the director, in 1898.

Among his actions while director was the renovation of the asylum, particularly the modernization of the dreaded East Wing and the creation of a new medical center with the help of architect Frank Teesdale. This spate of construction unfortunately stretched the asylum's resources thin, a fact only discovered following Brake's suicide in 1917.

Brake was succeeded in his position by his assistant, Dr. Donald Roe.
