Elizabeth Shepherd
Elizabeth Shepherd was the granddaughter of Bishopsgate founder Daniel Shepherd and the wife of James Teesdale. She had an unnamed brother whose child, Joel Shepherd, wrote on the subject of the Teesdale Mansion's burning.
Overview
| “ | He has surely returned to his rightful Place; I shall not weep for him. | ” |
| — Elizabeth Teesdale, regarding her husband James's death, as recorded by Joel Shepherd | ||
Only fourteen years old when marrying Teesdale, their marriage was an unhappy one, to the point that she refused to wear mourning dress after James's death. Of their seven children, only two survived: Edwin Teesdale and an unnamed daughter. The others died either before the age of seven or in the fire that ultimately killed Elizabeth's husband in 1714.
Trivia
The sourcebook indicates in different places that her children died differently. The timeline on page 57 notes that she only had two children who survived past the age of seven: Edwin and her daughter. The description of the fire on page 55, however, indicates that Elizabeth and James had "two elder Sons" who were visiting the mansion (and were thus presumably of age) when it went up in flames.
