Erdgeist

An Erdgeist (also known as Nisseling, Flinteeth, or Se-Gihes) is a type of earth-elemental spirit that appears as a small man with jagged, rocky teeth.[1]

Overview

Frequently appearing in swarms, Erdgeist are among the few elemental spirits known to communicate with other, "lesser" spirits.[1] They act as messengers of more powerful earthen elementals and have likely formed the basis for much of mortals' folklore regarding small, humanoid creatures.[2]

Erdgeists frequently protect caves and hidden grottoes and have been known to discourage cavers and sabotage mining operations that run too close to their nests.[2] Unlike many earth spirits, these creatures are often display curiosity toward humans.[2]
