Erinyes
The Erinyes are akathartoi formerly known to the Romans as the Furies.
Overview
| “ | Flee if you wish, mortal. Tonight vengeance flies on wings of fury. | ” |
The children of the goddess of night, Nyx, and underlings to the goddess of retribution, Nemesis, the three Furies became less and less well known as the years passed and their time ended. Alecto, Megaera, and Tisiphone, as Virgil named them, lost their spark of divinity with the end of their purpose and became demons.
It is as demons that they again became known in the Middle Ages, as demonologists glorified them for their incredible efficiency in meting out vengeance. Their power grew ever more potent until an ordinary invocation could not summon them any longer.
Now, the Erinyes can only manifest in the corpses of those who have recently died of violence. Unlike most demons, these three are entirely uninterested in spreading their sin of Wrath, remaining true instead to their original purpose as the deliverers of justice to the wicked. Their only requirement for service is that their names be subtly spread, so as to permit them to continue their work.

Demonic Aspects:
- The Kindly Ones: The Erinyes attempt to frighten off, rather than kill, innocent bystanders by revealing their demonic visage. This aspect follows the rules for the Numen "Terrify", using the Erinyes' Presence + Intimidation.
- Hell Hath No Fury: Erinyes are immune to exorcism. The Erinyes will return to Hell only once their target is dead, if their host body is destroyed or if their prey commits suicide or goes insane. Erinyes may not, however, set foot upon holy ground.
- Armored in Death: Erinyes use standard Attributes and Skills rather than Infernal traits. Additionally, they are immune to all toxins, diseases and environmental conditions that don’t harm the host body. They suffer no Wound penalties and the fiend within props up rotting skin, which gives the Erinyes an Armor rating of 4/4.
- Hell’s Angels: At need, and only at night, the Erinyes can spend Essence and roll Resolve + Stamina to force their host bodies to manifest wings for short periods of time. Erinyes can maneuver just as easily in the air as on foot and their Speed is doubled for the duration. At the risk of Burnout, the Fury can push the duration of the aspect for additional turns.
- Marked for Death: The name, or at least part of the name, of the intended victim is a requirement for the ritual that summons the Furies. This sets up a resonance between the target and the Erinyes. By spending a point of Essence, the Fury can always tell exactly which in direction the target is. Note that this aspect "thinks" only in straight lines; it doesn't take geography or obstructions into account.
