Vestments are the powers of the Possessed, brought forth by their connection with their Vice and with the demon to which they play host.[1]

Overview

Vestments are generally divided into the categories of Innate, Lesser, and Greater; mechanically, this translates to one-dot, two-dot, and three-dot powers.[2] Innate Vestments are always active and provide some minor benefit related to its associated Vice; Lesser Vestments are activated through Willpower expenditure and provide scene-long, specific bonuses; Greater Vestments are the truest of a demon's powers and tend to be shorter-length and more dramatic.[3]

Despite the name, a sin's Innate Vestments are not all available once a Possessed possesses a dot in a Vice. Rather, the individual possesses one of them, and can only switch that Innate Vestment for another by way of sacrificing a creature (i.e. inflicting points of lethal damage to it).[4] A second such Vestment can be acquired by way of gaining another dot in the Vice.[3]

Overuse of these infernal powers can trigger Burnout; specifically, when one of the Possessed cannot pay the Willpower expenditure to use a power and taps into the demon's power instead, or when a Greater Vestment is pushed past its normal duration, the mortal shell is damaged, cracking apart as the infernal power lashes at body and mind[2]. Should the host die at this point, the demon itself is forced out into the open, at which point it will likely either lash out or attempt to possess a nearby victim. [5]
