A representative of a Los Angeles loan and trading company, McIntyre recently converted after making the acquaintance of a local sage.[1] Although once the type to seek out new fads to look interesting to coworkers, his conversion is a genuine thing — the man was growing increasingly dissatisfied with his life, and he found that Buddhism made a great deal of sense to him.[1]
McIntyre has recently, however, fallen prey to a spirit targeting weak-willed, religious individuals, usually appearing as a satanic figure.[1] In the man's dreams, the spirit showed him images of the Shadow, which McIntyre interpreted as a Naraka.[1] The spirit warned that the Buddhist would forever wander the Naraka unless he acted as the being's agent, killing those the spirit claimed had bad karma (in truth, the family members of local Uratha)[1][2].
