Hachiman (Scion)
Hachiman is the Amatsukami god of fishing, agriculture and war.
Overview
Hachiman is a mercurial god, who can change his appearance at well to suit the role he's adopting. His symbol, the tomoe, depicts three drops of water traveling in a circle; this signifies the forces of change and transformation that are at work in his domains. No matter what form he takes, however, he is always accompanied by doves and by his banners, marking him as as divine.
Hachiman's roles in the modern World are more outward-looking than, say, Amaterasu's. He believes in bringing the best of Japanese culture to the world: its cuisine, its media, its philosophy, its art. To do that, he's been a monk, a martial arts instructor, a chef, and even a television producer. He's a gregarious figure who loves telling stories, and though he is a war god, he knows war is not won only on the battlefield. He works hard on logistics and support, too: tying people together in social networks, fertilizing the brightest minds with inspiration and new ideas.
For this reason, Hachiman is choosy about which of his children he reveals himself to; he wants officers and leaders, not thugs or obedient grunts. He values intelligence more than strength, and looks for those who can view the best and worst of their country with clear eyes. Often, he gives Birthrights in the form of books, whether they're about battle strategy or business tactics, to foster these qualities in his chosen Scions.
