Item:Computers for Grandma

A low-level Skill book. Raises Computers by one.

'To begin put the 'foot pedal' on the desk and push the power button on the metal box. This is the 'house' for your friend computer 'Chip', the enchanted, electronic pixie that can do 4.8 billion calaculations [sic] per second (WOW, that's fast, Chip!). Do you see an image on the 'magical computer window'...?' Reading this will boost your computer skill. Research of at least 2 is required.

The next Computer Skill book is The Cowboy's Guide to Cyberspace by Case.

Background Information

  • Sold by Trip in the Basic version of Bloodlines.
  • Moved to the Clinic Administrator's office in the Plus version of the Unofficial Patch.
  • A generic skillbook image was originally used, but Plus restored an alternate cover from the deprecated item_g_computerbooklowgrade.
  • The name is likely a reference to the popular "... for Dummies" series of DIY and self-help books, which includes Vampire: The Requiem for Dummies.
  • Chips tend to be measured in MIPS: millions of instructions per second. According to the list at that link, while there's no chip rated for 4800 MIPS (4.8 billion per second), the closest to the release of Bloodlines are probably the AMD Athlon from 2000 at 3,561 MIPS, and the PowerPC G4 MPC7448 from 2005 at 3,910 MIPS.
