Jean-Marie Delacroix

Jean-Marie Delacroix, is a Caitiff vampire proprietor of the Purgatory Bar.^[1]

Biography

Jean-Marie is a wiry little bundle of energy, a self-confessed fop and socialite. Although his Becoming (which took place in Montreal around 1850) was a brutal affair and left him Clanless, most of the city's Kindred agree that he has a strong dose of Toreador somewhere in his bloodline. He certainly has that Clan's obsession with fashion and having a good time.

Those few who know him well - and few they are who look beneath his exterior - realize that his foppery is merely an affectation. His interest in fashion and social life is simply an obsession, which he cultivates to keep in touch with Humanity and hold back the Beast. Fewer still know of the desperate loneliness Jean-Marie feels because of his Caitiff status and the abandonment by his Sire. He has a real need to belong, and the club has brought Jean-Marie the recognition of the Prince and a place in his Domain.

Jean-Marie revels in being surrounded by the living, and has no desire to become involved in any of the scheming or faction-fighting which takes place among the Kindred. So far, he has managed to make sure that Purgatory remains neutral ground and open to all. While his exterior inspires contempt in some, no-one regards him as a threat, and he relies on that fact for his safety.

He loves music, it was for that reason that he originally opened Purgatory - he wanted to be able to hear the bands he really liked. Though few can understand it, he really enjoys punk music, and it has become his passion in recent years. Though he certainly doesn't dress like a punk, he has more than a little of its nihilistic message buried in his heart. Certainly, his periodic fits of despair tie him to this strange sub-culture.

Purgatory is a valuable resource to the city's Kindred - a place of safety where feuds are left outside and problems can be thrashed out under a flag of truce. More than once, discussions here have averted serious discord. This fact, too, fulfills a need in Jean-Marie, one which he hardly realizes he has - the need to create peace and avoid unpleasantness, to build something for the good of all, the need not only to belong, but to contribute.
