- Five priests of the Malleus Maleficarum purge the leadership of the Conspiracy in mainland Europe. The purge was sanctioned by Pope Gregory XVI and claimed nine high-ranking victims, among them the bishop of Badajoz, the Mother Superior of an influential covenant in Rome and a Cardinal. The only evidence of what might have happened is a box in the Shadow Congregation’s archives containing nine Bibles, bound in human skin, and nine notched knives.[2]
