Monkeys of the Wind Sun

The monkeys of the Wind Sun, also known as the people of the Second Sun were among the predecessors of the Aztecs, who themselves lived in the time of the fifth Sun, the Movement Sun.[1]

Overview

The favored people of Quetzalcoatl, the people of the second sun accomplished such greatness that they began to honor themselves as creators over their gods.[2] As punishment, Tezcatlipoca transformed them into monkeys, spurring Quetzalcoatl to call forth the winds that eventually destroyed the Second Sun.[2]

By the time of the Fifth Sun, the monkeys existed in small troops and spent most of their lives hiding, only occasionally coming out to kill vulnerable travelers and steal their skins, hoping to reclaim the bodies long lost to them.[2]
