New Hope Farm
New Hope Farm is an organic farming co-op and Verbena chantry.
History
A circle of Verbena initiates — Jon Fairmont, Kameria Shula, Deborah Gray, Aileen Wilkinson, Takoda Walking-Bear and Teague O'Connel — established New Hope Farm not long after joining the Tradition. Jon had always wanted to establish a farm of this sort, and the circle soon found an ideal location with a Node.
After the Reckoning, with many of the Tradition's masters missing or dead, the mages of New Hope Farm began training new initiates. The farm also served as a safehouse for Tradition mages in danger, though the circle have to balance their own safety against the needs of their guests. In 2003, the circle became aware that the Node beneath the farm was fading; Jon volunteered as a human sacrifice to revitalize it and bring hope back.
Mission
In addition to its role as a chantry, New Hope Farm is a successful organic farm, modeling a form of agriculture that works in harmony with nature instead of against it. Everyone staying at the farm participates in the work of running it, and no one is exempt from chores, though permanent members of the circle have specialized somewhat. They sell herbs and vegetables to local restaurants and grocery stores for income.
As a co-op, the farm is run democratically by the circle and their students and consors, and governed by a set of by-laws. They typically meet weekly to discuss farm business.
