Deborah Gray
Deborah Gray is a member of Verbena.
Biography
Deborah always felt powerless and angry, and became interested in magic as a means to change that.[1] On Halloween 1993, Deborah went to visit Mother Celene with an acquaintance named Arion and his friends. When she was dismissive and disrespectful, the old woman taught her a painful lesson as a demonstration of power.[2] She was later brought to a chantry along with Jon Fairmont, Aileen Wilkinson, Teague O'Connel, Kameria Shula, and Takoda Walking-Bear to be initiated into the Tradition.
During their training, Deborah had a vision of herself in a past life being burned at the stake for witchcraft. It was so vivid that she burst into flames in real life and had to be saved by Rhianna Flamedancer. The priestess believed that Deborah's traumatized Avatar may be responsible for her anger and negativity in this life.[3]
At Beltane, Deborah hit a low point in her journey and considered suicide. However, when she overheard Jon fighting Lindara, she jumped in and nearly killed her before Jon separated them. Lindara, who had earlier dismissed Deborah from a lesson, seemed to admire her ferocity.[4]
Before the coven's Lammas celebration, Deborah and the others were subjected to a mock kidnapping in order to fully Awaken them.[5]
While celebrating Beltaine at New Hope Farm in 2003, Deborah and her coven-mates discovered a dying cu sith.[6] The following Midsummer, she participated in training a new group of initiates, and then took part in the ritual murder of Jon in order to revitalize the Node beneath the farm.[7]
