Randolph Meriwether

Randolph Meriweather of Providence was doctor who held a great fascination for the Rizzetti Apparatus, in large part due to the potential it held for curing the blood disease from which Meriweather suffered.

The man managed to acquire the device, but he could not succeed in making it function, due to what he believed to be a key component that was missing — a species of coral; more precisely, the bacteria living within it.
