Skull Pig

Skull Pig from Book of the Wyrm 20th. Art by Jeff Holt.

Skull Pigs are a kind of creature associated with the Wyrm that were created from Grondr Kin that turned to its service in order to survive the War of Rage.

Overview

The Skull Pigs are now degenerate creatures that feast on carrion, garbage, and toxic waste, mimicking the Gifts of their Grondr ancestors. As a result, their flesh is highly poisonous.

While Skull Pigs have lost the ability to reason, they can gain intelligence by consuming the bones of Wyrm-tainted creatures. Skull Pigs who have regained their intellect are able to use tainted mystical powers, mirroring the Shadow magic of the Bastet. Such creatures are also called "Voodoo Pigs".

Trivia

  • The Book of the Wyrm Second Edition claimed that the Skull Pigs were originally Ice Age relatives to tapirs and peccaries that were tainted by the Wyrm before the arrival of the Pure Ones in North America. Breedbook: Mokolé and following works like Changing Breeds establish that the Skull Pigs are the remnants of a former Changing Breed that were extinguished in the War of Rage. Since the Mokolé are Gaia's memory, it is possible that the former explanation is the one used by modern Garou who have no knowledge of the fate of their former rivals, or wish to deny the werewolves' complicity.
  • The Ral Partha Miniatures' Skull Pigs are clearly modeled after John Bridges' depiction of them in Rage Across the Amazon.

*Consumed Persona: Each meal of Wyrm-tainted bones increases the Skull Pig's Intelligence by 1, to a maximum of 5, or Manipulation, to a maximum of 4. These increases last for one year. An intelligent Skull Pig learns at least one Black Spiral Dancer Gift per dot in Intelligence. Manipulative Skull pigs use their talent to mimic voices and lure their victims into traps.
*Toxic Flesh: Any creature biting a Skull Pig suffers a point of lethal damage per turn for the next six turns.
*Umbral Gore Shift: Typically, Skull Pigs are unable to enter the Umbra as they lack Gnosis. Umbral Gore Shift changes this, requiring a pool or mass of blood and guts to act as the reflective surface Garou use. Awoken Turtle (or the Wyrm) that allows any Skull Pigs near him to enter the Umbra if Semyonov makes a successful Gnosis roll (Difficulty 6). Alternatively, if Skull Pigs make a successful Intelligence + Primal-Urge roll (Difficulty 7, though it becomes easier if there's a mass of gore and harder if the blood is spread thinly or barely present), they can pass into the Umbra without Semyonov's presence. Whether the Skull Pigs lose this power if King Semyonov dies is a decision the Storyteller must make.
