Cassandra Kelly was an aspiring actress living in Los Angeles. She got some sort of loan from her mother for the move, and was concerned about paying her back.

In May, 2003, she wrote a letter to her brother Dave, mentioning that she was now living in LA, living with a couple of other actors, and working as a waitress to make ends meet. She'd joined an amateur theatre group.

In October 2004, she excitedly updated Dave on how she'd been hired to play a small role (a waitress) in Elegant Pictures upcoming film, Time Storm.

Once principal photography had wrapped, a cast party was held at Howard Barclay's Mansion. She was gifted one of the prop time compasses by star Alan Vincent. Later, Vincent and Barclay cornered her on a balcony, demanding sexual favors. When she turned them down, Barclay pushed her over the edge.

She landed, her body shattered. It's possible she could have been saved, but Barclay blackmailed Vincent into keeping the situation quiet. The two buried her alive in the bomb shelter in the basement of the mansion.

In November 2005, Cassandra's mom took out a classified ad in the Angel Times, wondering where Cassandra went, and asking her to please contact the family so they know she's okay.

Spectre

After she died, Cassandra returned as a Spectre, the Broken Woman. Unlike many of the other Spectres haunting the Mansion, she had died there, so was bound more firmly than they were.

She managed to get her revenge when she was summoned during what was supposed to be a séance; she possessed Ed Miller and used him to murder the other séance attendees, starting with Howard Barclay and Meadow Walters, and moving on to Alan Vincent and Tom Shepard, before finally turning the knife on "herself," killing Ed's body.

Barclay didn't linger after he died. Like the Mansion's other Spectres, she hunted down the wraith of Ed Miller instead, seeming to confuse him for Barclay.

As a Spectre, her broken form gave her spider-like qualities, allowing her to scuttle along the walls and ceilings.

Although defeated during the game by destroying her fetters, if the player neglects to reach 100% completion, she'll appear again, and it's implied that the whole game loops again for Ed as part of his torment.

If the player reaches 100%, however, it's not the Broken Woman who appears, but Cassandra, thanking Ed for freeing her.

Background Information

  • The Broken Woman is the final Spectre encountered in the Mansion, and the most dangerous, essentially playing the role of "end boss." At this point, she can be found throughout the mansion.
