Windy Ridge

Windy Ridge is a mountain located nearby to the small town of Barnstaple. It is the site of the Barnstaple Tragedy, during which an avalanche swallowed the town, something believed to have killed all inhabitants.

Overview

The mountain kept us safe. The mountain loves us.
Regine Butler, speaking of Windy Ridge

As with much of World of Darkness: Asylum, this mountain bears both a supernatural explanation and a mundane one. The following assumes that it is supernatural.

A mountain continually strip-mined by the locals for its resources, in 2004, Windy Ridge awoke only to find intense pain — enough so that it reached out to the local children, warning them to hide before it send down an avalanche, killing the adults. From that point on, it played host to the children, who lived in tunnels that they dug into the mountain.

It only exists now because of its grasp on the minds of its followers — and as they age, they slip free of its grip. While ordinarily it compels the children to eat those who "age out", this compulsion has weakened to the point that Regine Butler escaped, eventually coming to Bishopsgate Mental Asylum for her trauma.

Though Windy Ridge remains for now, with time, the population of the children drops. Given long enough, its consciousness will fade again.
