Original combination: Pontaster planeta Sladen, 1889

Type locality: Challenger station 311. Off western coast of South America, near the entrance to the Straits of Magellan. 52°45′30″S 73°46′00″W / 52.758333°S 73.766667°W / -52.758333; -73.766667. Depth 245 fms.
