- Type locality: Chenango Valley, Hamilton, NY (42.5º N, 75.3º W). 350 m elevation; in top 5-15 cm of melting snow banks all under 25 cm deep, in open to mostly shaded areas near hardwood and coniferous trees; snow temperature near 0ºC and pH range of snow melt at 0ºC, 6.7-7.6.
- Holotype: Figs 2-4 (epitype) April 2001; from strain CU 725B. Culture deposited in the Colgate University Culture Collection, Hamilton, NY, USA.
