- Type locality: Whetstone Gulf State Park, NY (43.8º N, 75.5º W). 380 m elevation; in top 20 cm of melting snow banks, in partial to mostly shaded areas near hardwood and coniferous trees; snow temperature near 0ºC; pH range of snow melt at 0ºC, 5.0-5.3.
- Holotype: Figs 5,6 (epitype) April 1988; from strains CU 582C/582D. Culture deposited in the Colgate University Culture cCollection, Hamilton, NY, USA.
