Type locality and horizon: United States, Montana state; Early Cretaceous Laurasia, Cloverly Formation
Etymology: from Greek αντίρροπος (antírropos, “counterbalancing”), in reference to the unusual adaptation of the caudal vertebrae. [Ostrom, 1969a: page 5]
