Type locality: China. 云南 [= Yunnan]: 麻栗坡 [= Malipo County].

Litsea baviensis Lecomte var. venulosa H.Liu, Laurac. Chine & Indochine: 177 (1934); not accepted by Allen (1938) [cited as L. chartacea Hook.f.], Yang et al. (1978) and Huang et al. (2008) [cited as L. yunnanensis]
- Type: E. Poilane 10697 ([in flower, '31-5-24']; P [cf. P01990796^(GBIF) & P01990804^(GBIF), both determined with L. chartacea by C.K. Allen on 20 October 1937]; cf. PE 01725983 (02184614)^(CVH) [without explicit type indication]).
- Type locality: Annam [= Vietnam]. Prov. de Quang-tri: massif de Doug-cho.
