Name
Pycnoscelus Scudder, 1862: 421.
Type species: Pycnoscelus obscurus Scudder, 1862, by monotypy.
Gender: masculine (Note: The masculine gender is defined per ICZN 30.1.3, as Greek word(s) latinized with change of ending with the Latin suffix -us, formed by the combination of πυκνός (pukinós) + σκέλος (skélos) (despite this termination being neuter in Greek). The masculine formation is also consistent the original designation of the type species Pycnoscelus obscurus using a masculine epithet).
