Zhang et al. (2003) warn that records of this species from outside China must be treated carefully as collectors have noted on similarity of its foliage to that of Rhododendron.
Lao occurrence is represented by M.F. Newman [et al.] LAO 1431 (collected in Khammouane province; deposited at E [E00416074^(GBIF)]).
