Type locality and horizon: United States, Robert Gaston Quarry, Cedar Mountain Formation; Barremian pond siltstone/limestone
Etymology: named after John Harold Ostrom, for his works on dromaeosaurids, and Chris Mays, president of Dinamation and supporter of the Utahraptor's research. [Kirkland et al., 1993: page 5]
