Either inherited from Old East Slavic раса (rasa) or borrowed from Old Church Slavonic раса (rasa), to which it was borrowed from Byzantine Greek ράσον (ráson), which is also source of Greek ράσο (ráso); ultimately likely from Latin rāsum.
