Borrowed from Old Ruthenian трво́жити (trvóžiti) or directly from Middle Polish trwożyć in XVIII,[1] ultimately from Old Polish trwożyć, from Proto-Slavic *trьvožiti. By surface analysis, трево́га (trevóga) +‎ -ить (-itʹ).
