  1. (Biblical Hebrew) to withhold
    • Tanach, Proverbs 23:13, with translation of the Jewish Publication Society:
      אַל־תִּמְנַע מִנַּעַר מוּסָר כִּי־תַכֶּנּוּ בַשֵּׁבֶט לֹא יָמוּת׃
      Withhold not correction from the child; For though thou beat him with the rod, he will not die.
  2. to prevent [with מִ־]
    האיש מנע מהחתול ליפול
    The man prevented the cat from falling.
