Inherited from Aramaic דַּפָּא (dappā), from an early borrowing of Akkadian 𒁳 (dappum), variant of 𒁾𒁍𒌝 (ṭuppum), ultimately from Sumerian 𒁾 (dub, tablet; board, plank); compare Hebrew דַּף (dáf) and Arabic دَفّ (daff). Doublet of ܛܲܒ݂ܥܵܐ (ṭaḇˁā, stamp, signet).
