Verbal noun of ܚܵܐܹܢ (ḥāˀēn, to pity; to show mercy); compare Hebrew חֲנִינָה (khaniná), Arabic حَنَان (ḥanān, tenderness), حَنِين (ḥanīn, longing, nostalgia). The latter is an adjective derived from the former.
