Verbal noun of ܚܵܐܹܢ (ḥāˀēn, “to pity; to show mercy”); compare Hebrew חֲנִינָה (khaniná), Arabic حَنَان (ḥanān, “tenderness”), حَنِين (ḥanīn, “longing, nostalgia”). The latter is an adjective derived from the former.
