    Inherited from Prakrit 𑀆𑀯𑁂𑀇 (āvei), from Sanskrit आपयति (āpayati), from आप् (āp) + -अयति (-ayati). Compare Hindi आना (ānā).

    1. to come, arrive, reach
    2. (auxiliary, of a skill, such as a language) to be acquired or known [with dative subject ‘by’]; to be fluent
