Inherited from Middle Khmer ផ្ចញ (phcaña) (first attested in 1704). Equivalent to From ចាញ់ (cañ, “to lose”) with prefixed p- (causative). Cognate with Thai ผจญ, ผจัญ, ประจญ, ประจัญ, จญ (jon).
