Etymology

散(ち)らし (chirashi, 連(れん)用(よう)形(けい) (ren'yōkei, “conjunctive form”) of 散(ち)らす (chirasu, “to scatter”)) + 寿(す)司(し) (sushi, “sushi”). The sushi changes to zushi as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
