사뢰다

Korean

Etymology

From Early Modern Korean ᄉᆞᆯ오다 (solwota), from Middle Korean ᄉᆞᆲ다 (solpta), from Old Korean (*SOLP-). Cognate with Jeju ᄉᆞᆯ루다 (sawlluda).

In the hangul script, first attested in the Yongbi eocheon'ga (龍飛御天歌 / 용비어천가), 1447, as Middle Korean ᄉᆞᆲ다 (Yale: solp.ta). Inserting of —외— is likely due to analogy with 아뢰다 (aroeda).

Pronunciation

  • (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [sʰa̠ɾwe̞da̠] ~ [sʰa̠ɾø̞da̠]
  • Phonetic hangul: [/]
