Reconstruction:Latin/bene venutus
Latin
Alternative forms
Etymology
bene (“well”) + *venūtus, innovative past participle of veniō (“to come”). The past participle ending *-ūtus are extracted from supine forms of third conjugation verbs with stems ending in -u (i.e. cōnsuō, perfect cōnsuī, supine cōnsūtus).
Calque of Frankish *willjakwemō (with the first element wrongly identified as *wela (“well”) rather than *willjō (“will, desire”)), from Proto-Germanic *wiljakwemô.
