Old Novgorodian

Etymology

Expected reflex of Proto-Slavic *cь̀rky (from an earlier pre-palatalized form *kьrky), from Old High German kirihha, from Proto-West Germanic *kirikā (church), from Koine Greek κῡρῐᾰκὸν (δῶμα) (kūrĭăkòn (dôma), Lord's (house)), from Ancient Greek κῡ́ριος (kū́rios, lord). Cognate with Old East Slavic цьркꙑ (cĭrky), Old Church Slavonic црькꙑ / ⱌⱃⱐⰽⱏⰹ (crĭky). Displaced by цьркꙑ (ćĭrky).
