Proto-Celtic
Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *Hreyǵ- (“to bind, stretch”). Due to the semantic distance, the "bind" and "stretch" meanings have been assumed to be different roots, but De Vaan considers them the same root.[1]
Verb
*rigeti[2]
- (unprefixed) to stretch
- Synonym: *regeti
- (when prefixed) to bind
