Reconstruction:Proto-Germanic/turzdaz
Proto-Germanic
Etymology
Seemingly from Proto-Indo-European *dr̥s-dʰh₁-os, from a root *ders- (“to excrete”) + *dʰeh₁- (“to do, put, place”). Compare Latvian dìrst (“to shit”).[1] The root *ders-, apparently only attested in Baltic and Germanic, may be an extension of the root *der- (“to split, tear”); see also *teraną (“to tear, snatch”).
