Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *dwi-pl-o-s (“double, twofold”), from *dwóh₁ (“two”) + a zero-grade suffixed form *pl-o-s of *pel- (“to fold”). Identical with Ancient Greek διπλόος (diplóos, “double”)[1] and Latin duplus.
