Borrowed from Gothic *𐌻𐌴𐌹𐍈𐌰 (*leiƕa), from 𐌻𐌴𐌹𐍈𐌰𐌽 (leiƕan, to lend), from Proto-Germanic *līhwaną (to lend), from Proto-Indo-European *léykʷt, from *leykʷ- (to leave).
