Etymology

Hypercorrection of diversify, on the basis of Latin dīversificō +‎ -ate (verb-forming suffix) with diversify being the regular derived form of Middle French diversifier, itself from Medieval Latin dīversificō, from Latin dīversus (opposite, different).[1]
