Etymology
From Proto-Albanian *jama, from Proto-Indo-European *yém-o-s, from Proto-Indo-European *yem- (“to hold, restrain”). Cognate with Sanskrit यम (yáma, “rein, bridle”).[1] Alternatively, from Ottoman Turkish كم (gem, “bit”), from Greek κημός (kimós, “muzzle; nosebag”).[2]
