Etymology

From Proto-Albanian *jama, from Proto-Indo-European *yém-o-s, from Proto-Indo-European *yem- (to hold, restrain). Cognate with Sanskrit यम (yáma, rein, bridle).[1] Alternatively, from Ottoman Turkish كم (gem, bit), from Greek κημός (kimós, muzzle; nosebag).[2]
