hirvihammas
Ingrian
Etymology
Seemingly from earlier *irvihammas, reanalysed as hirvi (“moose”) + hammas (“tooth”), perhaps a hypercorrection through Votic influence, or just because it sounded funny. Related to Finnish irvihammas.
