This building tag is used for structures built for inhabitation by a single
household, such as a single family or small group of people sharing a kitchen and living space, but some may have a different current use or be empty. This tag is useful when it's difficult to determine a more specific building type. In most cases, alternatives are preferred.
Houses lined in a row, commonly referred to as terraced houses, rowhouses, or townhouses, are one of the few common uses of this tag and should include both the building= and house=terraced tags.

- The tag
building=detachedis more common for houses that are free-standing (not sharing any walls with other house) - The tag
building=semidetached_houseis more common for houses sharing one wall with a neighboring household. - For other residential accommodations, see
building=residentialandbuilding=apartments. - A row of terraced houses (i.e. houses which share two walls with adjacent houses) can initially be tagged as
building=terrace, but it's preferable to then split them into individual houses. Make sure neighbouring houses share at least two nodes.
