A house that is attached to another house on one side.
Also known as a duplex in some parts of the world. In other parts of the world the term duplex is used for multi-unit buildings with units on different floors rather than side-by-side - multiple units on different levels is not building=.
Note that duplex buildings sometimes mapped as one building way or two connected building ways. The tag building= is in use for both. So the current use of this tag is not clearly differentiating between them.
Connected rows of more than two houses should be tagged as building=terrace or building=house, depending on the mapping.
In the UK, 2 houses with adjoining garages which also connect to the houses are known as 'link-detached' houses. It is hard to tell, even on-the-ground and especially from aerial imagery, whether a garage has been converted to living space, potentially making it a semi.
Alternate tagging
Some mappers prefer to map this as building=house + house=semi-detached.
