A column or pillar is often used to support a roof or other structure, but can also be a standalone structure used for decoration.
If it is used for decoration as a part of a historical building, use historic=column, historic=monument instead, and possibly heritage=*. Alternatively, historic=yes can be used in combination with man_made=
