  • 9-16: Battle of the Teutoburg Forest. One of the most shocking defeats in Roman military history, and the beginning of a long legacy of bloodshed over the Rhine river.[1]
  • Arminius' forces are slaughtered by overwhelming Roman opposition. Germanicus, on the verge of breaking Germani resistance once and for all, is suddenly called back to Rome under questionable pretenses. Without a common enemy, Arminius' coaltion falls apart.[2]
