  • The Sepoy in Barrackpore mutiny over hazard pay for serving in Burma and being forced to travel by ship in contravention of caste proscriptions.[2]
  • Mexico becomes independent from Spain.[3]
    • Note: This is likely a matter of confusion on part of the authors, since Mexico became officially independent from Spain in 1821. In 1824, the successor state, the Mexican Empire, was overthrown and replaced with the United Mexican States.
