Etymology

From Kildin Sami пуӆӆьк (pul̥l̥’k), from Finnish pulkka. Doublet of пульк (pulʹk).

According to Vladimir Dal, the word is a derivate from оболокать (obolokatʹ). However, Max Vasmer rejects this theory due to its exclusiveness to Russia's North.
