Inherited from Aramaic בְרִיכָא (bərīḵā); related to Arabic مُبَارِك (mubārik) and Hebrew בָּרוּךְ (barúkh). In the dialects in the sense of “kneeling”, the rules of begadkefat are disregarded, and are most likely denominal of or reshaped by a word such as ܒܸܪܟܵܐ (birkā), hence the absence of /x/.
